Millions of Americans Lack Clean and Accessible Water

A recent study investigated the effects of water privatization, or the transfer of public water systems into private companies, as a potential force for water access equality. 2 million Americans currently do not have access to running water and another 30 million have access to running water, but their systems violate safety rules. Water injustice, as defined by the researchers, is the unequal access to safe and clean drinking water with disproportionate impacts for low-income households and communities of color. The result of the survey suggests that privatization of water is not a solution, but rather a clear understanding of the context of this water injustice determines outcomes. Read more here.
