Colorado’s Drinking Water Solution

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently allocated $376,000 to Colorado to help address unsafe drinking water in schools and childcare facilities. The money comes as a part of the $26 million in funding for states and territories to provide lead free water to schools. This funding is provided through the EPA’s Voluntary School and Child Care Lead Testing and Reduction Grant Program. Since 2018, Colorado’s Test and Fix Water for Kids Program has protected 700,000 children from lead exposure in drinking water; 100% of the state’s elementary schools have been tested for lead and undergone fixture replacement. This new grant money will be used to fix remaining lead contaminated fixtures in middle schools and expanding texting in childcare centers. Our Health Equity advocates for practical solutions to lead contamination in drinking water that will provide every American with access to clean and safe water. Read more here.
