Illinois Values Local Grocers

Small, local grocery stores are getting support from a $26 million grant in Illinois. Most of the funds are being used to open new stores in food deserts, but some existing independent grocery stores will receive critical support to help them stay open. Some stores will be able to modernize and expand their services with this funding, allowing them to remain competitive with big grocery chains like Hy-Vee and Walmart.
