Indiana Puts Pressure on Nonprofit Hospitals

Indiana House Bill 1004 attempts to bring health care costs down by revoking a hospitals nonprofit status if they charge more than 300% of their modified Medicare reimbursement rate. Proponents of the bill argue that this will lower the prices of care in Indiana, forcing nonprofit hospitals to remain within a reasonable price range. Critics of the bill argue that the language is too harsh, but the bill does provide provisions for rural critical access hospitals and allows hospitals to reestablish nonprofit status by complying to the language of the bill for 90 days. Our Health Equity advocates for reforms in the charity care system to ensure that all Americans have access to the healthcare they need at a reasonable price. Read more here.
