340B Transparency from the Inside

Last week, Eli Lilly, a large pharmaceutical company that works with covered entities in the 340B program began withholding 340B discounts from hospitals that don’t submit internal data claims. The action is unprecedented, and the Department of Health and Human Services and the Health Resources and Services Administration have released statements calling it unlawful. Still, Eli Lilly has begun withholding discounts from hospitals that fail to meet their transparency requirements. This comes at a time where the 340B program is under scrutiny for its widescale expansion while few benefits are seen by patients.
