HRSA Approves 340B Rebate Program
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) have greenlit a new plan to enact rebates in the 340B program. The new rebate model will drastically change how savings in the drug discount program are distributed to providers, allowing drugmakers to issue rebates to hospitals instead of upfront discounts. The HRSA sees this program as a way to address widespread concerns about abuse within the program as hospitals make huge profits without passing discounts onto patients. Rebates under the new pilot program start January 1st for some common drugs and may expand in the future. Our Health Equity advocates for reforms in the 340B program, like these rebates, to ensure that all Americans have access to the medicines they need at a reasonable price. Read more here.
