Ohio Combats Food Deserts
A new piece of legislation in the Ohio House would address food insecurity for communities in need. House Bill 543 is a bipartisan proposal that aims to expand access to fresh and healthy food in Northwest Ohio food desserts. The bill allocates up to $15,000 per year to eligible convenience and corner stores to help them stock and sell fresh produce and nutritious foods. People living in food deserts often lack access to large grocery stores with a wide range of healthy options. Bringing more nutritious foods into neighborhood stores is a meaningful step toward better eating habits and improved overall health. Our Health Equity applauds Rep. Hosh Williams and Rep. Terrence Upchurch for introducing this bill and ensuring that all Americans have access to nutritious food, no matter where they live. Read more here.
