Indiana hospitals are struggling to stay open amid raising expenses. Operating margins have declined in the last year, leaving hospitals scrambling to make up lost revenue. This is particularly significant in rural and safety-net hospitals, where decreased revenue and high operating costs translates to a loss of access for patients. About 40% of all Indiana hospitals are operating in the red, with more expected to join them this year.
