Lead Contamination In New York

The Environmental Protection Agency is giving New York 10 years to remove all lead pipes in statewide systems, but first they must identify where these pipes are located. There is no safe level of lead in drinking water, with any amount of exposure leading to serious health problems. Thousands of lead pipes still service New York, with even more pipes unidentified. Utilities use decades old records to tell which pipes are lead, but may need to take a direct approach to understand the full scope of lead exposure in the state.
