Lead Line Battle in Michigan
The city of Gladstone, Michigan, is following Flint’s lead, attempting to replace their underground water lines for new ones that will not contribute to lead contamination. The City Commission met early in May to submit a project plan and apply for funding. New guidelines require that lead pipes must be completely replaced by 2037 because the effects of prolonged exposure, even at a low level, has been deemed incredibly dangerous. Lead line replacement is a way to eliminate lead exposure in drinking water, but it is incredibly costly and, as seen in the city of Flint, often inefficient. Our Health Equity champions alternative solutions to ineffective lead mitigation programs, like Folmar Pipe Protection™, to make the goal of lead-free water a reality, faster. Read more here.
