Texas Schools Take Action
Recent testing enabled by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Lead Testing in School and Child Care program found elevated levels of lead in a Runnels County school district. The district has announced new short term and permanent measures to mitigate lead exposure in their schools. There is no safe level of lead consumption, with exposure causing behavior problems, lower IQ, and anemia among children. The school is closing water fountains and are implementing filters provided by the National Sanitation Foundation or the Water Quality Association.
