Urban Food Insecurity Rises

More than 75% of the world’s food-insecure population now lives in urban areas, according to a 2024 study by the High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition. This challenges the common perception that food insecurity mainly affects rural communities. To address this growing problem, communities can expand urban gardens, advocate for more equitable food distribution across urban, rural, and suburban areas, and support policies that build sustainable, inclusive food systems. Our Health Equity champions community-led solutions like these to ensure all Americans have access to healthy, affordable food. Read more here.
