Alabama Addresses Health Disparities

A new program out of the University of Alabama Huntsville attempts to address the widespread health disparities in the state. Alabama ranks near the bottom in health. It has the third-lowest life expectancy, the second-worst veteran suicide and infant health rates, and has the worst maternal health outcomes in America. Neighborhood Nursing, a new multi-agency initiative developed by the College of Nursing at UAH, is an innovative program that seeks to educate and inspire nurses to champion strategies that promote health and well-being throughout the state and beyond. The program aims to improve access to healthcare and reduce disparities by bringing preventative care to underserved communities and emphasizing the power community has on individual health. Our Health Equity champions community-oriented solutions, like the Neighborhood Nursing program, to ensure that all Americans have access to essential healthcare. Read more here.
