Community Response to Hospital Closures
Chicago area activists are coming together to demand the reopening of the only hospital in the Uptown neighborhood. Weiss Hospital is closing after failing to comply with state regulations, cutting Medicaid and Medicare revenue and forcing a closure. This closure will create a critical gap in healthcare access for vulnerable populations, especially Medicaid enrollees. Closures like this reflect a nationwide trend of hospitals in lower-income neighborhoods struggling to stay afloat. Our Health Equity applauds the Chicago activists trying to protect Weiss Hospital and advocates for accessible and affordable healthcare for all Americans, no matter where they live. Read more here.
