Lead Line Replacement In Ohio
A new initiative in Ohio, “Strong Starts Begin with Safe Water,” takes a proactive approach to getting lead lines out of some of the state’s childcare facilities. The program is funded by the city and a $500,000 grant from an organization called H2Ohio and aims to replace city and customer owned lead lines with copper alternatives. Aging lead infrastructure can make water unsafe to drink, leading to cognitive delays and behavioral issues. Young children are among the most at risk for this exposure and by proactively targeting childcare facilities, the program aims to mitigate exposure. However, lead line replacement isn’t always the easiest means of eliminating the effects of contact with lead; the process is expensive, time consuming, and invasive. Our Health Equity champions alternative solutions to costly and ineffective lead line replacement programs, like Folmar Pipe Protection™, that make the goal of lead free water a reality faster.
