Lead Policy In California

Communities across the country are responding to lead contamination in drinking water, however, California’s new inventory shows that there are no lead service lines left in the state. While other states are forced to undergo costly and complex lead line removal, California’s years of good policy and proactive change has provided a blueprint for other states to follow. California had early limits on lead materials, engaged in long-term oversight, and took several inventories before a national requirement was made.
