Minnesota Hospital at Risk of Closing (Copy)

Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis is at a real risk of closing as budget cuts put the safety-net hospital in danger. 2026 has already seen a $50 Million cut from the hospital’s operating budget, with plans to cut another $150 million before the end of the year. Leaders in Hennepin County are looking for ways to prevent the closing with some suggesting implementing a permanent 1 cent sales tax to help close the gap. HCMC is a go-to trauma center and safety-net hospital not just for Minnesota, but for several surrounding states and a closure could eliminate affordable and accessible healthcare for countless Americans. Our Health Equity advocates for accessible and affordable healthcare for all Americans, no matter where they live. Read more here.
