New Federal Grants Replace Lead Pipes

The Environmental Protection Agency recently announced $3 Billion in federal funding to reduce lead exposure in drinking water. The agency hopes that this funding will accelerate lead-line replacement programs. Updated estimates out of the EPA suggest that there are fewer lead lines in the US than was previously reported, with only 4 million active lead lines instead of the 9 million previously reported. Lead line replacement programs are time-consuming and expensive, with much of the cost being passed onto taxpayers.
